A Sporty Adventure in Pisa

Image
Happy Travel Tuesday, being as febraury was too short we moved the prompt Tuesday to today. February's theme is a sporty adventure , and while I don't really do much sport while traveling I do like to walk around a city-big or small! During our 15 days in Europe trip in 2014 we stayed one night in Pisa before returning to Hamburg. We figured we were already here, might as well take a couple of extra hours to explore this city. Many visitors will be happy visiting the Cathedral of Pisa and then moving on, but in reality there's so much to do in Pisa besides seeing the leaning tower. Our first day there we did just that, went to Piazza dei Miracoli so my sister could see the famous leaning tower for the first time. Piazza dei Miracoli  The main attraction in Pisa is the leaning tower, which can be found in Piazza dei Miracoli. We spent the afternoon here, We made sure to visit inside the cathedral (also doubled to escape the summer heat) and afterwards took some ...

Best of 2014.

Image
I only posted a couple of times between Dec and Jan, I was going to do a sort of best travels of 2014, and started it but it stayed in my drafts. Since we are five days into February I figured i'd post it today. Better late than never.  I would like to take the time and look back at five travels  of 2014, they might not be the best but I will only be mentioning these five.  Some I have talked about more than once on this blog, and I'm thankful we were able to visit these cities. We took a day trip with some friends to Schwerin in february to visit the castle and its surroundings. London was the second stop of our trip last June, and I loved everything we got to do! Paris , what can I say about the city of love that hasn't been said already? We had a 16 hr layover in NYC and it was the best ever, I haven't posted about it yet. Spoiler: we didn't do everything I had mentioned on my NYC bucket list , but we almost everything, and added ...

Walking around Paris in June.

Image
There are currently a shit load of things I need to do, including, but not limited to:  - Start packing and throwing things away, I have exactly one month to have everything ready for our move. - Edit all the pictures from our two weeks in the hospital, Avi took her camera and even though a lot of them are blurry, I need to fix the ones that aren't so I can share them with our family. and... - keep posting on the blog. So for today I decided I would join in on Travel Tuesday and write about our Paris walking tour, I haven't blogged about our trip around Europe in a while, i'm almost finished, but I figured I'd get back on the saddle with this post.  Paris was a city on our list of cities to visit in Europe and i'm glad we did. I love the walking tours because they take you to major landmarks but make little stops around the way. The Paris tour was really different to all the other ones we've taken, instead of taking you to see the eiffel tower the...

Best or Worst Vacation.

Image
Day 7 - Today's prompt Is what is your best or worst vacation. I don't think there is such thing as a bad vacation? Maybe you can go to the beach and it rains all week, but there's always something to do. I'm going with best for today, and I'm going to tell you about one of my favorite ones. My top two are: Christmas 2010 , which was spent in Charlotte, NC (where I got to see snow for the first time!) and Orlando, FL (where Pablo and I went on a "graduation present" to Universal Studios) and Summer 2014 , during which we did a sort of "Eurotrip." Our best, and my favorite vacation was the 15 days we did around Europe this summer. My sister had flown in from the states in June to visit us for a month. During that time I had planned two weeks of visiting different cities that interested us across Europe. It was the perfect excuse to visit cities that we hadn't been able to yet, and revisit a couple other. Here is our itinerary ,...

What we did in Firenze

Image
A year ago we were spending  8 days visiting 4 cities in Italy , out of which, exactly a year ago today I was celebrating my dad's birthday eating a burger at a restaurant in Florence. A little over a month ago we were there for the second time. We didn't go to that restaurant though, because the special from last year was no longer available. We got to see many of the same sites we had previously seen but the first time we went we didn't know it was possible to go up the dome. This time our main focus was just that, we bought tickets that included access to all the monuments in the Complex of Santa Maria del Fiore: Brunelleschi's Dome, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry of San Giovanni, the Crypt of Santa Reparata inside Florence Cathedral, and the Opera Museum and we began our visit around the city... Unfortunately the Opera museum was closed when we were there so we were unable to go inside, and the baptistry was completely covered ...
