Travel Tuesday: The one were we visit Strasbourg, France

When Bevchen mentioned to me that one of her spontaneous day trips from Karlsruhe was to Bad Bergzabe I googled it right away and looked for her blog post on it to see if it was a place we could visit with Pablo's job ticket. Come to find out we could, but as I looked more into it, I found that a little south of it is Wissembourg, a French town that was also within the job ticket limits.

I started making plans on going to visit this place. When Pablo asked me what was so special about it; I had to respond with a "nothing, it's just a little town at the border" to which he responded with a no thanks.

But then we found Strasbourg to be a viable option and Katrina mentioned she had visited it the year before, I went to look through her posts and we were sold.

We made plans to visit on the weekend. Pablo's colleagues told him that all we had to do to visit Strasbourg was purchase a day ticket for the Alsace region for 12 Euros (for 3 people) and we were good to go.

As we arrived in Strasbourg we started walking around a little worried about the rain that was starting to fall.. But we quickly found somewhere to eat, burgers, but not with normal burger buns, it was a different bread, and they were very good!

Then we continued off exploring, walking towards the city center, where the Strasbourg cathedral lies.

The interesting thing about the Strasbourg Cathedral was that at 142 meters (466 feet), it was the world's tallest building from 1647 to 1874 (227 years), until it was surpassed by St. Nikolai Church in Hamburg. The Cathedrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg is the sixth-tallest church in the world and the highest extant structure built entirely in the Middle Ages.

If you are going to visit Strasbourg make sure you visit these three famous sites:
- Notre Dame (Strasbourg) Cathedral 
- Walk around the Grand Île, the entire central island is a World Heritage Site
- The storybook "la Petite France" neighborhood

 I found Strasbourg to be a beautiful medieval town with half-timbered houses and a cathedral worth visiting. So if you happen to be in the area, stop by for a great day trip.
