V is for Very Unique #TravelTuesday
Welcome to Travel Tuesday!
Since it's the last tuesday of the month it is a prompt Tuesday and this month's theme is "Hidden Treasures" zoned in on hidden treasures of a particular location or region. Not to be confused with last October's prompt: What’s a hidden gem that you have stumbled upon while exploring a new place?

Whenever somebody tells you "I'm going to Germany" and you ask them "oh, what city are you going to?" the answer is typically Berlin, Munich or Frankfurt, nobody ever really says they are going to visit Hamburg (unless they've previously heard about this wonderful city). So today I'm going to put Hamburg in your radar (if I haven't already).
Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and has a population of about 1.8 million. It has the second largest port in Europe and is referred to as the "Gateway to the World" as you may expect it has many interesting and varied neighborhoods.
Hamburg is a very cosmopolitan city and it has long been a trading port. It has many historical areas, some of the original buildings might no longer be there due to fire, flood, and bombs, but they have been replaced.
There are many, many reasons to visit this lovely city, for example you might want to come to see the Rathaus (Town Hall), Speicherstadt (the warehouse district), and St. Michaelis church. Maybe you want to visit because you heard it has more bridges than Amsterdam and Venice due to it's many canals, lakes, and rivers, or maybe you want to visit because along the Elbe you can find sandy shores making us have a beach in Hamburg.
One area of the city I haven't talked about yet and is a treasured piece is the alternative area of the Schanze.
It is worth of a visit for people of all ages. it's buildings have graffiti, but the area is definitely safe to wander by foot. It is a good place to people watch, shop in small boutiques and eat at some cheap but good restaurants-many offering outdoor dining.
It's located North of St. Pauli, and West of the city-center.
Sternschanze is accessible by both S-bahn (S31, S3) and U-bahn (U3).
