Alter Elbtunnel

Welcome to my posts for the 2016 A to Z Challenge.
This year, I am posting 26 things to do in Hamburg.

If you are visiting Hamburg, one area you are sure to see is Landungsbrucken, and while there Irecommend you stroll through the Alter (old) Elbe tunnel. This tunnel is a pedestrian and vehicle tunnel in Hamburg constructed in 1911. It is a tourist attraction in this lovely city and worth a visit if you are in the area.
The Alter Elbtunnel (Old Elbe Tunnel) is a great tourist attraction in Hamburg, // read more about it here // #AtoZChallenge #ABCsOfHamburg

It is 426 m (1,398 ft) long and 24 m (80 ft) beneath the surface. It connects St. Pauli to Steinwerder, the southern bank of the Elbe river.
It has huge elevators on either side of the tunnel that are still used to date, it is open 24 hours for pedestrians and bicycles, and motorized vehicles are allowed during specific time frames.

Walking through the Old Elbe Tunnel is something you should experience at least once while visiting Hamburg. Once you are on the other side you will have one of the prettiest views of Hamburg.
On the other hand, if you'd like to go through the new tunnel on the A7, and want to check the traffic you could see a live traffic report online.
