My four year old cut her hair.

Image
Like the title says, Avi cut her hair!  The last time I cut her hair was last December , and this summer when it was time to cut it again she decided she didn't want bangs anymore and would rather let them grow.  It took me a while but I agreed to let them grow out, I didn't want to, since I think they make a child look cute, but whatever, she didn't want them anymore.    We were on a roll, they were half as long as the rest of her hair. 08 August 2014 Two sundays ago she came to me asking for help with a doll, she had cut the pull string on it and needed my help to fix it. As I was trying to help her Pablo asks her to go over to him so he could see what she had done, I got distracted when I saw her hair and wasn't able to grab the pull string in time to be able to fix it, she cut her bangs!  When I asked her why she did it she said it was because her hair kept getting in her face and it was bothering her.  I told her that in reality there was no n

Why I Meal Plan (& this weeks Menu)

Image
As thinking for a menu plan this week I thought back to what I ate this past week, and why I Meal Plan.  I mentioned this the first time I posted my menu plan  on the blog and I'll say it again, right now I buy enough food to prepare 3/4 meals each time I go to the supermarket thanks to the size of our fridge (it's small with an even smaller freezer) and this is the case in many of the apartments in Gemrany, especially those studying here, so having a meal plan is good for me,  Why I meal plan, and you should too. - It's a good way of watching what you eat. - To always be prepared, not having to worry about coming up with something to eat last minute. - It comes in handy when it's time to go to the store, you have a list of what you need so you don't have to overspend. - I find inspiration for new recipes (I usually go through  the link up  and get many recipes from other participants).I wouldn't have tried otherwise. - Save money by not eating

What we did in Firenze

Image
A year ago we were spending  8 days visiting 4 cities in Italy , out of which, exactly a year ago today I was celebrating my dad's birthday eating a burger at a restaurant in Florence. A little over a month ago we were there for the second time. We didn't go to that restaurant though, because the special from last year was no longer available. We got to see many of the same sites we had previously seen but the first time we went we didn't know it was possible to go up the dome. This time our main focus was just that, we bought tickets that included access to all the monuments in the Complex of Santa Maria del Fiore: Brunelleschi's Dome, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry of San Giovanni, the Crypt of Santa Reparata inside Florence Cathedral, and the Opera Museum and we began our visit around the city... Unfortunately the Opera museum was closed when we were there so we were unable to go inside, and the baptistry was completely covered in scaffolding, but

What's for lunch?

Image
Hi!  I haven't really been posting the menu plan online, let's say I skipped the last two weeks, especially since my cooking is so repetitive, I thought it would annoy any readers that I just kept cooking the same thing.  For example,  I went shopping today and for the next couple of days we will be eating: Ground Beef (I don't know yet how I'll prepare it) Pizza  Lasagna  Frikadellen Nothing new. So, I  will be changing it up a bit, and this week instead of sharing what I'll be making, I'll be posting what Avi will be eating for lunch at Kita (Kindergarten). This week's menu: 18.08-22.08 German English Montag [Mon] Spinat mit Rührei und kartoffeln // Apfelmus Spinach with scrambled eggs and potatoes // applesauce Dienstag [Tue] Hühnerfrikasee mit Reis // Quarkspeise Chicken fricassee with rice // Junket [quark dessert] Mittwoch [Wed] Pellkartoffeln mit Quark und Zuckermais // Pudding Boiled potatoes with cottage cheese and sweetcorn // pu

What... Hamburg Harbor (in Blue!)

Image
If you follow me on twitter then you should know that last week Hamburg was displaying blue lights all around it's port and it continued on through Hamburg Cruise Days weekend too [Aug 1-3].. I was happy we were able to go over the weekend. Twice. BLUE PORT HAMBURG (Jul 28 - Aug 3) There was an official light up ceremony on July 28th but we were unable to attend, Avi and I were able to go to Saturday's event, there was a huge festival at the port. I took a ferry from finkenwerder and got off at Altona/Fischmarkt. The creator of BLUE PORT HAMBURG is the international light artist Michael Batz. His award-winning light projects and concepts have been seen in Salzburg, Florence, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Berlin. Batz first made a name for himself with Blue Goals, the city-wide light installation he created to coincide with the 2006 World Cup. He staged his Blue Port Hamburg concept for the first time at the first Hamburg Cruise Days festival in 2008. This year was

What we did in Scharbeutz, Germany

If you happen to be in Hamburg for an extended stay during the summer I definitely recommend taking a day trip to visit a beach. I mean, the days are long, it's super hot, and there's no a/c. What better reason do you need?  There are many beaches in and around Hamburg & there is also the option to go to a Freibad ( swimming pool , but we haven't visited one yet, so I don't have any recommendations). Last July during Avi's ferienwoche we went to Scharbeutz Strand (which back then I called Scherbatsky because I could never remember the name).  I wrote a recap about the whole week and mentioned this trip on that post, you can find pictures there too.
