Happy Birthday to me!

Image
I  talked yesterday about how my family spends  Christmas , and like we found out their are tons of different  Christmas  traditions around the world. Just like that there are also different birthday celebrations! One of my favorite birthday traditions is taking pictures of "das Geburtstagskind" the birthday kid*. Anyways, twenty-six years ago today, between one and two in the morning  central time, a cute little girl was born , there were probably others, but today we will be celebrating this special one, ME!   While taking birthday pictures is one of my favorite traditions I don't have pictures from all my previous birthdays. Maybe I do, I just wasn't able to find them anywhere. I am thankful for another year. I am thankful to be surrounded by my family. I am thankful for the opportunities we take advantage of. Today I will be spending the day with family. it's all planned out, starting with breakfast with my in laws, then l

Christmas Eve for me.

From one house to another, with food and more food, spending Christmas with the family can be a little hectic but we do it anyways. T his year we spent Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with Pablo's family. We had a late lunch at Pablos parents house and then we were dropped off at my sisters place so we could go together to my grandma's house.  It was over two years since I had seen everyone so we had a really nice re encounter. The first part of Christmas Eve was spent with my mom's family, a fter spending some time with family members we hadn't seen in over two years (but we would be seeing again in a couple of days for my birthday!) we took off to my aunts house to meet up with my dad's side of the family.  Overall, we had a great evening, fun for the kids! although, my little sister got a little upset that we didn't wait for her to break the pinata, after all, she's one of the young cousins. We waited for midnight

New York City Bucket List

Image
In just four days we will be having an extended layover in this wonderful city. As far as I know there's an endless list of things to do while in NYC. I wish we could do them all, but we will only be here for an afternoon, I have to plan it out good, so i've decided to create a New York City Bucket List. Brooklyn Bridge Source If time permits, I want to take a walk across it, from here I should be able to take many pictures, some blurry some not. Especially of the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan Bridge, the Empire State Building, and the skyline. The Empire state building. Can't go to New York city and not see the empire state building, I know there won't be enough time to go up but at least from the bottom! Rockefeller View the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree as close as I can. A few other must-do's Central Park. Visit the 911 memorial. Do a lot of walking. This is a very short list but yet again. it's only an aft

It was a long time ago, but in the middle of the blogtober challenge I received a comment about my blog being nominated for the one lovely blog award, and while I was in the hospital I received a couple more, and another one afterwards. I want to thank Sam , Becky , Dorrie , Jeanie , and Michelle for the nominations and today I am finally able to complete this post. The rules: Thank the person who nominated you for the award. What we've been eating.

Image
First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers, in honor of it being thanksgiving, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of what I ate while we were in the hospital. I haven't uploaded my menu plans for over a month, mainly because our food was being provided and I wasn't doing any cooking (just 'preparing' our breakfast and abendbrot,  evening bread). The times we were home I was too busy with other stuff that I just bought whatever I felt like cooking and only did a quick plan on my way to the grocery store , which is also why i've been a little MIA lately, there is SO much to do around the house, I'll post an update soon enough.  Back to what I ate while we were in the hospital, they had a good variety, offering 4 -5 different meal options per day (3 regular ones and 2 vegetarian). I managed to snap a couple of pictures of  some of my lunches, I don't remember what everything was called, I think I might have written it down

Hospital or Travel Entertainment?

Image
It is always a good thing to bring extra items to keep your child entertained, whether it's for keeping them distracted while traveling, or a stay in a hospital. Avi had surgery done yesterday, thank God everything went fine, in fact, the area that was operated was even smaller than we had foreseen, that's always a good thing, right? Now we just have to wait for it to heal and take extra care so she doesn't end up with that much of a scar.  We will be spending the next five days in the hospital, but this time I came prepared. I brought a bunch of snacks and activity books for her to keep entertained, since she won't be able to get off of the bed in a while. In the backpack you will find similar items to what I will be packing in her carry on backpack when we travel in three weeks! The backpack is filled with: - Comic book/coloring book - Phone/iPod with age appropriate games  what she uses most is mainly the electronics,   - Mandala creator -

Christmas Around the Globe

Image
I love Christmas and the traditions that come with it!  Every country has it's different ones, I was thinking of writing a post about one of my favorite Christmas traditions, and I will do it when I go home in Dec. But then I read +Van 's post and figured, why not ask others to collaborate and spread the Christmas cheer around? So I'm offering a (first time ever) guest post series. If you're interested in joining my "Christmas around the globe" guest post series, you are more than welcome to! I want you to write about your experiences celebrating Christmas abroad or in your home country (what are the similarities and differences between the two?) or if you'd rather, you can tell me what your favorite Christmas tradition is? I'm offering 6 spots in this series, starting on December 2nd and I'll promote it on social media.  Would you like to participate?  Then sign up here . **UPDATE** Sign up's are now closed, but I might

Walking around Paris in June.

Image
There are currently a shit load of things I need to do, including, but not limited to:  - Start packing and throwing things away, I have exactly one month to have everything ready for our move. - Edit all the pictures from our two weeks in the hospital, Avi took her camera and even though a lot of them are blurry, I need to fix the ones that aren't so I can share them with our family. and... - keep posting on the blog. So for today I decided I would join in on Travel Tuesday and write about our Paris walking tour, I haven't blogged about our trip around Europe in a while, i'm almost finished, but I figured I'd get back on the saddle with this post.  Paris was a city on our list of cities to visit in Europe and i'm glad we did. I love the walking tours because they take you to major landmarks but make little stops around the way. The Paris tour was really different to all the other ones we've taken, instead of taking you to see the eiffel tower the
