Happy New Year

Image
I'm back! It's only fair that the first post of the year (even if thirteen days after the first) wishes you a happy new year. We got back a week ago but it took me this long to get adjusted. Here are a few tidbits from my life during the past month that i've been "away:" Blog of the Month While I was away I got chosen for blog of the month at expat.com, click the image to read the interview. My Daughter I was finally able to register Avi for the upcoming school year, but she is not enrolled just yet, they have to check all the students then select a few and the rest get sent to the next school. I really don't know how it works, but I'm hoping she gets accepted to our first choice. The Blog I have an upcoming review for a new (to me) subscription box, check back Saturday to see what it entails.. Also, I'll be catching up with comments/commenting by the end of the week.  I'm thankful for all the lovely guest posts I had wh...

Pros and Cons to getting a loft bed with a slide. #FurnitureFriday

Image
Loft bed with a slide can be translated to  Hochbett mit Rutsche. To continue on with reviewing the furniture pieces that we've bought I will review the loft bed (with slide) that we bought for Avi's room. These are somewhat common here due to the lack of space in most apartments.  We were excited for the fact that Avi finally has her own room, and while searching for a bed for her we were leaning towards a high bed and thought the one with a slide would be fun. so after looking in to it we decided to buy this " Spielbett Hochbett - Marco - Kiefer Massiv - Weiss mit Rutsche+Rollrost"  via  Amazon .  it's fun! We were a little skeptical about the slide, since the ones at the stores don't allow kids to climb them and we weren't sure how fast she would slide. After setting it up she tried it out and with no surprise we found out it does go pretty fast, but in the end we found a way to make it work. ;) Characteristics: It is made of...

One month in Ktown by the numbers.

Image
The 25th marked one month of living in this city and it's been weird trying to adapt. I saw this post on kiki 's blog and thought it was a great idea to help keep up with what we did during the month, here's what we've accomplished in our first month in Kaiserslautern. FIVE big suitcases filled with our stuff, some that we had left in Hamburg and some we brought back from Mexico. SIX days spent at the universities guest house before we got the key to our apartment. MANY trips to furniture stores. ONE hour spent ice skating. The ice skating rink at KL on ICE was smaller than I expected, but that was okay, It was only Avi and me, she was really excited about this but was sad she wasn't automatically able to skate/good. This was her second time ice skating but just as difficult as the first. NO kindergarten, yet. We still don't have a Kita, and it's even harder for us since Avi is 5, she should be in vorschule (preschool) already! I...

Furniture Friday.

Image
My favorite room in the house, my this is a tough one, right now it has to be the living room, since it is so spacious, but we have yet to fill it.  I've decided I will be reviewing the furniture we've recently bought for our house in Kaiserslautern, just because some of the items we've bought are worth it, it took us a long time to decide and well, this might save someone the trouble in the future.  So far we have 5 major pieces of furniture and the rest will be bought within the next couple of months. It took us a while to decide what to buy first, we went over our budget and prioritized. We still have a lot of items on our list, and will be buying them little by title each month.  Aft er many trips to different furniture stores including the local POCO and Möbel Fundgrübe, we purchased a substitute for an item on the top of  our list. Since the dining room table is not top priority, we bought a temporary one. The kitche...

Here's the thing

This past Tuesday the fourth was Avi's 5th birthday, and if you follow me on instagram you saw that we spent it in the hospital. Avi still had a great day, our neighbors came to visit her, the nurses and lunch lady gave her special gifts, and we decorated her room with a lot of balloons. The beautiful birthday girl with her presents from the nurses! A photo posted by Diana Elle (@dianaelleblog) on Nov 4, 2014 at 1:16am PST I've also been away from the blog for the past two weeks because we were in the hospital. If you remember I requested a prayer that no surgery would be necessary in my last post. Avi got a second degree burn, but we got through it! We're actually still working on it, keeping her hydrated, making sure she doesn't scratch, and applying cream so it doesn't dry up. The doctor told us it is practically all superficial except a little part on her leg that might be more deeper than we originally thought, there is a chance that she ...

Me vs. Getting up

Image
Hi guys, so basically my week has been the usual with a little extra, like I mentioned in my previous post my sister is visiting & we can't wait until our vacation starts next week! This week has had hectic traffic, Wednesday we didn't go to school because our bus was late & the next one too  & since they were going on an outing and she had to be there at a specific hour we would of missed them by the time we would of arrived. So we just went back home and called it a day. Today we barely made it on time for school.  I have three alarms. 6:33, 7:05, and 7:40... I use the 6:33 one Tuesdays and Thursdays.. (When I have to catch an earlier bus because I have German class). 7:05 has two purposes.. Tues and Thurs it is to let me know that it's almost time to take the bus. And MWF it is my alarm to wake up.  7:40 is also to let me know I have to leave the house.  I don't know what happened today maybe I turned off the 7:05 alarm thinking it was...

How I finally have some sun!

Image
It's the middle of the week and I thought I'd update you guys with happenings in our lives. There are so many random things I thought I'd combine them into one post. Nice Weather I finally have some sun and with it comes some hot weather, which in an a/c less world is not that cool! haha. At the moment I am definitely not complaining, Avi spent yesterday and today playing in the garden with our neighbor, Rosa, and they took advantage of the weather and turned the sprinkler on-at least they get refreshed!  Mall time We stopped by the mall today after I picked Avi up from kita, they have a little "get prepared to go to the beach" corner and Avi enjoyed her time there. Sometimes she cooperates and has a good time at the mall other times we just spend a half hour at their coin machines. #TrendyTuesday I am still doing the 30x30 challenge I just did not get to upload yesterdays #TrendyTuesday post since I don't have the pictures of the weeks...

How I spent Sunday.

Image
So today was a good day! I spent the morning in the kitchen & on the computer.. I was saving recipes on a "recipe sheet" template that I got from google docs.. I added like 5 new ones that I got from emails I subscribe to! I love expanding my weekly recipes, feel free to email me your favorite one, if you really recommend it and would like for me to try it out. I've also been going over the FLYLADY's Emails and now have a morning and evening cleaning routine, especially in the kitchen, that little room is now clean & I have started using it as my "office"! I will dedicate tomorrow & Tuesday to cleaning the living room. I am hoping that since I am not using it, it can stay clean longer, but doubting it since all of Avi's toys are there. At least she knows that the toys she doesn't put away will be taken away for X amount of time. It was raining today.. and after eating dinner I looked out the window and saw a rainbow! ...
