A Berlin Sort of Weekend

Happy Travel Tuesday!

Pablo's brother was in Sweden for work again and then he came to visit us during valentine's weekend. We decided to do something special and planned a trip to Berlin. We booked a one way (ICE) ticket from Hamburg for 67€ and paid 48€ on our way back (via regional trains). Both were for three adults and one six year old, very worth it!

We decided to book it this way that way Pablo's brother would be able to (1) go on a fast train and (2) visit Schwerin castle. It was his first time in Germany, always see a castle and take a fast train on your first visit to Germany ;)

I was very excited that we were going since I had recently one a GPSMyCity app and had chosen Berlin. I didn't download the map beforehand, so I was unable to actually use it there. The only thing I did do was check in to some of the sights on the app, more on that later when I use it again in summer.

As soon as we arrived in Berlin I was set on going to Brandenburger gate so  we could take the free walking tour which would start soon. While we were trying to see which was the quickest way to get to the city center from haupbahnhof we decided to purchase tickets for the hop on hop off bus. Since we took a long time to decided whether or not we would do it they gave us the student discount and Avi didn't pay.

Here's a little recap of day one, what we saw and what we ate:

After taking a selfie with the tv tower we were on our way to lunch, I had seen a fish and chips at alexander platz last time we were here  amd decoded we should try it and we did.

After eating we went to see the cathedral and then walked towards brandeburger tor.

After we went to check in at our hotel we bought a group tageskarte (day ticket) and went on our way to try Mustafa's gemuse kebap. We waited in line for 2 hours (INTHECOLD), and I have to say it is not worth that long of a wait!
We got the food to go and ate at the hotel.
Our Second day we woke up, checked out and went to look for a bakery so we could eat breakfast, they had a bunch of valentine's specials but we opted for regular-bakery goodies.
After breakfast we went to legoland, but when we got there we saw that it is mainly for kids and we only had one with us so we went to the next option on our list, sea life aquarium, we bought the tickets online (and still had to wait in the long line).
It was small, but it included a ride in the elevator aquarium, so that was pretty cool. We got out of there with enough time to run to the main station to take our train to Schwerin with 10 minutes to spare.

We arrived in Schwerin and walked to the castle, it was already dark so we got to see the castle by night, which is something we hadn't so that was pretty cool!

Afterwards we were walking back towards the train station but stopped for dinner first. these burgers were more on the expensive side, but pretty darn delicious.

In reality we spent a day & a half in Berlin and an evening in Schwerin, but I wouldn't change it. I loved being in Berlin again.
